Why did you choose HR as your field?

I knew I wanted to work in a business role and since I am a people person, I wanted a career where I had direct interaction with employees. I also like how HR covers so many areas ranging from talent management to employee relations. There is never a dull day working in HR and I enjoy the diversity

I am the Human Resources Generalist with SYSTRA, an international architecture and engineering firm in the transportation industry.

In your current job, what gives you the greatest sense of reward and accomplishment?

I am fairly new in my current role and I am still familiarizing myself with our policies and procedures, but so far it has been rewarding to help others with their HR questions. I may not know the answer right away, but I try my best to provide a timely response and the employees have been very grateful.

What is your greatest personal or professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment was when I earned my PHR certification. I felt it was important to get my certification to grow as an HR professional. My future goal is to become SPHR certified.

What words of wisdom would you offer to someone entering the HR field?

It is important to learn as much as you can and take on additional tasks to broaden your experience.

What have you found most valuable about being a member of PSHRM?

PSHRM offers a fantastic network of very talented HR professionals. There’s a wealth of information to be gained through PSHRM and I’ve learned a lot from the seminars and events I’ve attended. I have met many great people through it all.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy spending time with my husband and taking in all that Philadelphia has to offer. I especially like riding my mountain bike on the Schuylkill River and Wissahickon Trails. I also enjoy the beach and I am looking forward to several day trips to the Jersey Shore this summer.

If given an opportunity to do something really extraordinary or adventurous, what would it be and why?

I like to travel and one of the places on my list to visit is Antarctica. The environment and lack of tourism offered is both fascinating and intriguing.
