Get to Know Tori Mitchell

What are your current job responsibilities?

I am currently responsible for generating new business for our Administrative Support Staff and Human Resources division, sourcing for qualified candidates for our open positions, interviewing candidates, building lasting relationships, and networking with professionals all across Philadelphia.

Why did you choose HR as your field?

I didn’t choose HR – HR chose me! I, like most recent grads, came out of college not knowing what field I wanted to go into until I completed with Mikal Harden (Partner at Juno Search Partners) and I spoke about recruiting. She told me all the up’s and down’s of the staffing world, but it really intrigued me and sounded really exciting, so the next thing I knew I moved to Philadelphia and started working at Juno.
What really interested me about HR and Recruiting was that you get to interact with other professionals all day and essentially help them grow and develop.

What is your current job or role?

I am currently the Recruitment Manager for the HR and Administrative Support Staff division of Juno Search Partners. I am involved in all the hiring that goes on within that division.

In your current job, what gives you the greatest sense of reward and accomplishment?

I get the greatest sense of reward and accomplishment when I place someone in a position that truly makes them happy. I love getting those calls from happy clients and candidates thanking us for finding them the best fit.

What is your greatest personal or professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment would have to be helping Juno get to where it is today. When I first started at Juno, I was their first employee and we now have 6 full-time employees. It has been amazing to see Juno almost triple in size over the past two years.

What words of wisdom would you offer to someone entering the HR field?

Always keep an open mind – HR has so much to offer. Be willing to explore other avenues within HR in order to become a well-rounded HR professional. Also, I would suggest becoming a member of PSHRM and expanding your network. There are so many wonderful HR professionals in Philadelphia that can offer so much support and guidance. If you make time to network with other HR professionals, they will make time for you and in the end it will turn into a very valuable relationship. If you work hard and are dedicated you will find much success in your HR career.

What have you found most valuable about being a member of PSHRM?

Some of the top HR professionals in Philadelphia are PSHRM members and I have expanded my network so much. I have gained many valuable relationships and have made lifelong friends. I know that if I ever have an HR related question or need some guidance I have other PSHRM members to reach out to. I would recommend PSHRM to every HR professional in the area.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, playing softball, going on adventures, and snuggling with my two cats.

If given an opportunity to do something really extraordinary or adventurous, what would it be and why?

I would love to move to another country. I would love to just pack up all my stuff and live on an exotic beach somewhere. I would also love to live on a boat at some point in my life.
