You are invited to attend Apprenticeship as a Talent Development Strategy, a conference for private-sector and other employers focusing on opportunities to participate in new apprenticeship programs and start apprenticeship programs, especially in the health care, information technology, manufacturing, and financial services sectors.
Apprenticeship enables employers to provide training and instruction according to an employer’s particular needs and to prepare employees for positions that are difficult to fill or will be vacated by retiring workers. At the same time, it provides access to jobs and careers for job seekers, who will receive wages based on demonstrated competencies and who will typically earn college credits. Registered Apprenticeship programs, overseen by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), have traditionally been used in construction and the skilled trades and are being expanded to high-growth sectors.
An apprenticeship guide for employers released recently by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia explores the experience and potential of apprenticeship with a focus on Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The guide provides case studies of five long-term apprenticeship programs and profiles of new and noteworthy programs.
Opening speakers are Patrick T. Harker, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and Diane Jones, Senior Fellow of the Urban Institute, who recently co-authored Starting a Registered Apprenticeship Program and has developed national occupational frameworks for employers under a DOL contract. In addition, Michael DiBerardinis, Managing Director of the City of Philadelphia, and H. Patrick Clancy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Philadelphia Works, Inc., will describe employer opportunities in apprenticeships and other workforce strategies.
The conference will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Chemical Heritage Foundation at 315 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. The agenda is available here.
