The Courageous Leadership workshop will provide practical strategies for building workforce courage so workers can become opportunity-seekers. A proven approach for using courage to improve performance and counteract the negative impacts of workplace fear will be introduced. When everyone is working with more courage, the entire organization is transformed for the better. Research shows that courageous workers seek out leadership opportunities, step up to challenges, offer innovative ideas, passionately embrace change, and are more productive. In short, courageous workers get work done!

Participant outcomes include:

  • Understanding why courage is the premier personal and professional virtue.
  • Learn empower and engage people by modulating comfort and discomfort
  • Clearly differentiate between two different leadership dispositions, Fillers (encouragement) and Spillers (discouragement).
  • Be versed in the distinct types of courage (TRY, TRUST, and TELL) and how to differentiate among them.
  • Understand how to create an environment that supports ongoing courageous behavior.
  • Get tips on how to increase your own courage while inspiring more workplace courage.
  • Come away with specific individual actions and commitments to leading, teaming, and interacting with more courage.

The workplace is fraught with daily challenges—challenges that may provoke fear, stress, or even excitement; but challenges nonetheless. These challenges can, potentially, inspire our courage or undermine our performance. The workshop will help attendees enlarge their Courage Capacity so they can meet organizational challenges with more confidence and less fear.

Meet our presenter:

Bill Treasurer is founder and Chief Encouragement Officer at Giant Leap Consulting (GLC), a courage-building company that exists to help people and organizations live more courageously.

Bill is considered the originator of the new organizational development practice of “courage-building.” Bill is the author of the internationally bestselling book, Courage Goes to Work. The book provides practical strategies for inspiring more courageous behavior in workplace settings. In 2009, the book became the 6th bestselling management book … in China.

Bill is also the author of Courageous Leadership: Using Courage to Transform the Workplace. As a comprehensive off-the-shelf training program, the material is designed to help organizational development practitioners and training professionals inspire more courageous behavior in their organizations. The program has been taught to thousands of leaders in 11 countries on 5 continents.

Prior to founding Giant Leap Consulting, Bill was an executive in the change management and human performance practice at Accenture, a $35-billion-dollar management consulting firm. Bill became Accenture’s first fulltime internal executive coach, where he coached Accenture senior executives to become more courageous leaders.

Bill’s first book, Right Risk, was published in 2003 and is about how to take smart risks. It draws on Bill’s experiences as both an organizational development professional and as a daredevil athlete.  Bill is a former member of the U.S. High Diving Team.  For seven years he traveled throughout the world performing with a team of high performing athletes. During that time, Bill did over 1500 high dives from heights that scaled to over 100 feet…sometimes on fire.

Bill holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin (4.0) and attended West Virginia University on a full scholarship. He is currently the past chairman of Leadership Asheville, a community-based leadership program and served on the board of his local YMCA. Most importantly, he is the father of three beautiful children, Alex, Bina, and Ian.

Bill’s newest book, The Leadership Killer, was released in October of 2018 and is co-authored with John R. Havlik, retired Navy SEAL. The book shows how hubris is the most lethal leadership attribute and becoming sadly common. The book provides practical tips for building genuine leadership humility.
