Philly SHRM is sponsoring a free HR Career Development Series designed to provide valuable career information for current or aspiring HR professionals. Session 2: HR Technology Panel
Technology continues to change the way companies conduct business. In fact, when properly deployed, technology may serve as a source of competitive advantage for organizations. As a result, businesses large and small continue to make significant investments in technology. In the HR space, organizations have used technology to support traditional processes such as payroll, benefits, and staffing. HR technology has evolved and now offers more strategic applications such as talent management, succession planning, and workforce analytics. Our panel will discuss their experience with HR technology and its continued application in the workplace.

Todd Tarpley, VWR International
Todd Tarpley is Director of HR Applications for VWR International, LLC.
As Director of HR Applications, Todd oversees the global deployment of the Workday HCM application and North America Payroll Operations. Todd is responsible for identifying, implementing and managing system solutions for the global Human Resources organization.
Todd joined VWR International in 2012. Prior to joining VWR, Todd was an independent consultant focusing on PeopleSoft HCM implementations and strategic projects. He partnered with Cap Gemini on multiple large scale implementations.
Todd received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from The University of Notre Dame in 1998
Wayne Tarken, Consortium for Analytics, Talent and Technology
Wayne Tarken, MBA, SPHR, CSM – HR Executive, Project leader, Senior Adviser – brings over twenty years of experience working with Chief HR Officers, CEOs, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and startups, helping them design then execute innovative people and business strategies
Tarken works on the integration of talent, technology and analytics strategies into HR tools, programs and operating models designed to improve service, grow engagement, digitize operations, increase performance and drive business opportunities.
Combining functional experience in IT, Sales and Digital marketing along with unique experience as both a certified scrum master(CSM) and certified HR leader (SPHR), he excels at managing the relationship between HR and IT, providing HR with the technical and practical experience needed to engage IT leaders on technology focused strategies and implementations as well as getting a better handle on data to create the insights that guide HR decision-making
He’s a member of CHREATE.net, a global consortium of top 200+ CHROs, business leaders focused on break through contemporary thinking in HR where he developed new HR organizational and transformation models focused on HR agility. He also founded the Consortium for Analytics, Talent & Technology (C4ATT), an open-source working group of senior HR leaders sponsoring enterprise organizational transformation projects
Tarken has worked with leaders at organizations such as IBM, Comcast, J&J, Coca Cola, Merck, Campbell Soup, Bank of America, Astra Zeneca, PwC, Glaxo, TD Bank, Children’s Hospital, Dollar Financial, etc.
He’s recognized as an outstanding educator, highly valued and dynamic speaker who has taught at Cornell, Temple and Penn State Universities and delivered global presentations on a variety of innovative and leading-edge HR practices.
He graduated from Temple University with an M.B.A. in Management and a B.A in Economics.

Beth Chandler, Vanguard
Beth Chandler is a Senior Manager at Vanguard leading the HR Operations Shared Services organization. Her current areas of responsibility are focused on HR technology development, human capital data & reporting, and a centralized project management office. She has over 20 years of leadership experience in the Financial Services industry holding various leadership positions in Vanguard’s Retail division, Human Resource division, and their six sigma Center for Excellence. She has been part of two large transformation programs and was most recently a program leader where Vanguard transformed the people, process, and technology aspects of their HR division. As a part of the transformation team, she led the HR business workstream implementing process design and configuration as they moved from on premise technology solutions to cloud based technology applications. It was a complete transformation of the HR systems. This effort led her to her current leadership position in HR overseeing a team of approximately 40 employees.
Beth earned a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University, has her six sigma black belt certification, Series 7, 63, and 24 FINRA licenses, and also obtained her Certified Financial Planning designation.
Amanda Cushman, Villanova University & Conduent
Amanda Cushman is a Senior Manager on the HRS Global Product & Strategy. With over 10 years of consulting background, her expertise includes HR technology, specifically as it relates to business process optimization, change management, project management, and creating strong business cases. Amanda’s ability to identify enhancement opportunities allows her to provide her clients with solutions that result in increased productivity and efficiencies.
