Philly SHRM’s: 2024 Visionaries: Inspiring HR and Business for the Future

In today’s corporate environment, organizations lean on creative and innovation HR leaders with the foresight to create a optimistic future. Philly SHRM’s goal is to ensure its members and local HR community is equipped with the knowledge and tools to lead organizations into a brighter future.

Philly SHRM is excited to announce our first annual Visionaries event. This will be an opportunity for HR professionals to learn how to continue making an impact at their organizations while learning more about trends to expect moving into the near future.

This year’s topics will include:

  • Unleashing HR Superpowers: Gaining Leadership Buy-In for Maximum Impact hosted by Tracy Flint
    • Learning Objectives for this session are:
      • Equip solo HR professionals with tools and strategic approaches to effectively gain leadership buy-in.
      • Examine some of the challenges that solo HR professionals face.
      • Review benefits of aligning HR with business strategies.
  • Building Human-Centered Bridges in a VUCA World: Leveraging HR Partnerships with Psychological Safety, Organizational Citizenship, and Personal Beliefs hosted by Elizabeth Finkle
    • In today’s VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) world, HR partnerships are more important than ever. To navigate the challenges we face, HR professionals must build adaptable and resilient connections, not only within the organization but also with external partners. But true partnership goes beyond strategies and policies—it’s about acknowledging and embracing the human side of our work, including our personalities, beliefs, and rituals. In this session, we’ll explore how to bring our full selves to our partnerships in HR. We’ll look at the importance of psychological safety in creating environments where people feel safe to express their authentic selves, how restorative practices help us navigate conflict with empathy and understanding, and how organizational citizenship behaviors enable us to build stronger communities through cooperation. By acknowledging the uniqueness of our personalities and beliefs, we can create more effective and human-centered HR partnerships.Together, we’ll explore ways to leverage partnerships that are not only effective in navigating a VUCA world but also grounded in the humanity of the people involved. By the end of this session, you’ll have practical strategies for fostering authentic, human-centered partnerships that honor both business objectives and personal integrity.
  • Politics and Low EQ at Work: Election Fatigue? There are skills for that!  hosted by Dean Becker
    • The 2024 results of the American Psychiatric Association’s annual mental health poll show that 77% of Americans are stressed and anxious about the upcoming election. Not only is this bad for our EQ and resilience, it’s bad for our health. And for many of us it’s contributing to high levels of burnout at work. You’ve probably been advised to limit your exposure to the 24/7 news cycle, practice mindfulness and get plenty of sleep. But there’s more we can do to inoculate ourselves against the onslaught of negativity, conflict, and stress before, during and after the election.

In this session, we’ll take a hard look at the neuroscience of our emotional responses to stress. You’ll learn, practice and apply two cognitive (thinking) skills that will boost your emotion management especially when your energy is being sapped by politics – or by any other stressor.

After this session you’ll be able to:

      • Name your “Signature Emotion” at work – the one that you tend to feel more than others and that drains your resilience capacity.
      • Use the Trap it, Map it, Zap it (TMZ) skill in-the-moment to identify and defuse any emotion that’s stressing you out, depressing your mood and hurting your performance.
      • Use the STAR Technique to feel more positive emotions more often to refill your resilience and emotional intelligence tanks more quickly.

You’ll also receive access to a landing page on the Adaptiv Learning website with materials that will help you extend your learning journey.

  • DEI Backlash: Where Do We Go From Here? hosted by Tonya Ladipo
    • Change often provokes fear, and the pull to return to the status quo is powerful. Since the
Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action, some companies have been scrambling to
determine the next steps for their DEI initiatives. Yet, others have been doubling down and deepening their commitments. This engaging, 90-minute session is designed to discuss what is on the horizon for DEI in today’s political climate and how we care for ourselves with so much change and uncertainty.
    • Learning objectives: Using a combination of brief lectures, polling, and small group discussions, we will explore:
      ● Data about employees’ response to DEI initiatives
      ● Best practices for organizations to manage risk related to DEI initiatives
      ● Caring for ourselves as we guide others through this new phase of DE
